My definition of preparation: Be there before you get there. What do I mean by that? If you put in the time to prepare, you will be ready for the task at hand as well as the unexpected (and there's always something unexpected). The knowledge and confidence you've gained from that preparation will provide the quickness of thought in that unexpected situation.
