Listen to what you hear the most

I have talked about growth and development a lot over the years, and I think we hear about it from many other sources as well. Sometimes I get the feeling it has become just a passing catchphrase.

All of us can agree that the things we hear most often are the things we tend to pay the least attention to: the old "yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah."  My message today is to encourage all of us to do the complete opposite when it comes to the things we continue to hear over and over again. The reason? Because so often these things are true. And the truth is what often leads us where we want to go, where we want to be, and what we want to become.

I encourage everyone (myself included) to go back and revisit words and phrases that fall into this category. In the case of growth and development, these are the cornerstones to the success we long for. These two words are part of the mindset I wake up with every day -- to make sure that each day I am growing and  developing. It may not be by leaps and bounds but rather piece by piece, item by item, thought by thought.

In my mind, success is a journey and not simply a trip. To me, a trip is finite: we go somewhere and we return. But if we are on a journey, we never arrive; we just keep on traveling. I have used Michael Jordan's quote many times: "Success doesn't stop once you get there." This journey of growth, development, and success is a journey that should never end.

Go back and evaluate the "blah, blah, blah" words and phrases in your life and turn them into "listen, listen, listen.” Once you have done that, then take that final important step of "action, action, action."
